饭岛夫妻买了块儿地准备自己盖栋房子，于是拜托了妻子的学弟柳泽进行设计，妻子的父亲长一郎担任木工主任。柳泽是美国留学归来小有名气的室内装潢设计师，满脑子现代艺术观念，而长一郎是个一流的日式传统木工，在他眼里没有比和式住宅更美好的事物，建造工作就在两个人不断的摩擦中开始......It is old against new and modern against tradition when a couple builds their dream house. The wife's father is in the construction business so he would be the natural choice to take the lead, but his daughter is bent on having a modern house and retains a younger man to complete the job. The father's help being still required things devolve into a clash of styles, wills and old Japan with the new. This is the film to make you enjoy or detest the choice of tiles.
