故事发生在1994年的北海道，鹿野靖明（大泉洋 饰）患有罕见的肌肉萎缩症，全身上下只有头部和手部能够活动，可即便如此，鹿野仍然向往着自由的生活。他擅自决定离开医院这座如同监狱一样的处所，在大批的志愿者的帮助下，鹿野如愿以偿的过上了理想中的不受束缚的生活，但他似乎有些过于的不受束缚了，因而总是会提出类似于“半夜想吃香蕉”这样离谱的要求。 田中（三浦春马 饰）是负责照顾鹿野的诸多志愿者中的一名，任性而又随性的鹿野让他非常的头大。一天，田中的女友美咲（高畑充希 饰）来到鹿野家拜访，鹿野竟然对她一见钟情。A man is immobile and incapacitated. He is home-bound, but lucky to have multiple professional and nonprofessional volunteers serve and help him. He takes full advantage of the situation and uses and abuses the volunteer crew. The volunteers mean well and count a loser boyfriend and quasi-man among their ranks. The man gives up his girlfriend to the man with nary a protest. The girl is game too. She is easy. After all, her boyfriend is hardly a man.
